Konstantinos (b. 1990, Sidirokastro, Greece) studied Biology at the University of Crete, Greece, where he also undertook his MSc studies under Prof. Christos Tsatsanis. His placement as a PhD student at the CMMC started in 2015, and he has been working on the molecular basis of recursive splicing. Kostas is funded by a DFG grant that is part of the SPP 1935 Priority Program on the ‘mRNP code’.

Theodore (b. 1977, Athens, Greece) studied Chemistry at the University of Patras, Greece. In 2001 he joined the Insect Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology Lab at the Institute of Biology, NCSR “Demokritos”, as a research associate under the supervision of Drs. Luc Swevers and Kostas Iatrou. He then worked as a research specialist for Roche Diagnostics Hellas., before joining, in 2011, the lab of Dr. Dimitris Thanos at the Biomedical Research Foundation Academy of Athens. Apart from wondering how biological systems work he always had a favor for computer systems and programing. Theo is supported via our CMMC core funding.

Athanasia (b. 1975, Athens, Greece) studied Biology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she also undertook her PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. George Rodakis on the molecular evolution of molluscan mtDNA. Before joining our lab, Athanasia did her first post-doctoral work with Dr. Paul Brinkkoetter on the role of the key mitochondrial factor, TFAM, in kidney function. Currently Athanasia is working on miRNA-centered 3D networks; she is funded by a DFG grant.

Yulia (b. 1987, Kazan, Russia) studied Biotechnology at the Kazan Federal University. She undertook her PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Sven Danckwardt on RNA-protein interaction at the University Medical Centre of Mainz. there she developed a novel, more efficient, CLIP-seq method. Upon joining our lab, Yulia started working on a human stem cell-based model to dissect the molecular etiology of the Hallerman-Streiff progeroid syndrome; she is funded by the Else-Kroener-Fresenius Stiftung.

Karoline (b. 1995, Denmark) is a PhD candidate working under the supervision of Thomas Hansen at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, and has been a visiting student at our lab since February 2018. Karoline has a particular interest in circular RNAs, and is currently working on a specific subset that confer anti-inflammatory roles.

Natasa (b. 1992, Belgrade, Serbia) studied Biology at the University of Belgrade, where she also undertook his MSc studies. Her placement as a PhD student at the CMMC started in 2016, and she has been working on single-nulceotide resolution and single-cell nascent RNA-seq to understand fundamental differences in the temporal deployment of TNF- versus TGF-driven transcriptional responses. Natasa is funded by a DFG grant.

Eduardo (b. 1987, Brazil) initially studied Computer Sciences in Pernambuco, Brazil, before undertaking his PhD work with Ivan Costa at the RWTH University of Aachen, Germany, and developing an interest in transcription factor binding properties on chromatin. Eduardo joined our laboratory in February 2018 and is interested in deep learning and in new tools that further exploit native Hi-C data.
